Deciding to undergo cosmetic surgery is a journey that often begins with a deep, personal reection. It's essential to ask yourself, "Do I truly want this surgery for myself?"

We often hear stories of children being teased for their appearance, like a child with prominent ears. While these experiences can be painful, it's important to consider how these feelings may impact adults as well. Even a casual comment or curious glance can signicantly affect a person's selfesteem. It's unfortunate, but it's a reality we must address. However, what's even more concerning is when individuals feel pressured into cosmetic surgery by others.

Before making such a decision, it's crucial to have a thorough internal dialogue. After all, surgery is a serious medical procedure.

So, what should your mindset be as you stand in front of the mirror? You should be in a stable biopsychosocial state. What does this mean? Biologically, you should be healthy enough to undergo surgery. Smoking is a habit I strongly discourage in my patients. Psychologically, you should not have untreated depression or any other untreated mental health condition. Socially, you should not be experiencing signicant loss. Let me elaborate: You should not be going through a divorce or be driven by the fear of losing your spouse or partner. You should never undergo surgery due to peer pressure or a desire to t in with a new social group.

In summary, cosmetic surgery should be a personal decision made for your own well-being. While it's natural to seek validation from others, it's equally important to analyze your motivations and ensure that they align with your long-term happiness.

Sincerely,
Mehmet Tapan
